Filmmaker Daedalus Howell Makes Bid to be James Bond
In an effort to curtail the “endless speculation” as to who will be the next James Bond, writer-director Daedalus Howell has decided to take matters into his own hands and has offered to portray 007 himself.
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) October 7, 2004 — In an effort to curtail the “endless speculation” as to who will be the next James Bond, writer-director Daedalus Howell has decided to take matters into his own hands and has offered to portray the 007 himself.
In an open letter to Bond film producer Babs Broccoli (published on his blog at DaedalusHowell.com), Howell offers his services and argues why he is better qualified than such contenders as Clive Owen and Ewan McGregor.
“Now, now, I know you’re thinking, ‘but Daedalus darling, no one knows who you are.’ Quite fitting for a secret agent, don’t you think?” writes Howell. “I’d be like a ‘stealth Bond,’ which totally fits because no one even knows I’m an actor.”
An itinerant entertainment reporter, who has written for the San Francisco Chronicle and the L.A. Downtown News, Howell is perhaps best known for the R&H Educational Suite, a series of mock 1950s educational films (Is It Time to Swap?, What to do with Your Dead Hooker, Johnny-Come-Early) currently airing on Showtime as well as for the cult novel The Late Projectionist (published in paperback and available online).
“You see, I’m not one of those café cads who dribble, ‘I guess, in a way, I’ve been acting all my life’ and always going to auditions. No, I’m a new breed of Hollywood hyphenate. You may have heard of the author-auteur? One thing we double-A’s know for sure is that ‘all the world’s a casting couch.’ So, I must be acting because it feels like I’m always getting screwed,” observes Howell, who has been practicing his Bond shtick by swilling martinis (shaken not stirred) and cavorting throughout Hollywood in a rented tuxedo.
“After playing James Bond I suppose I will probably have to play Superman, I mean somebody has to take responsibility,” says Howell.
Howell, is a native of Petaluma, CA. His letter to the James Bond producers can be read at DaedalusHowell.com .
